About Lukeisms

In the early days of 2009, after months of my belly being stretched to epic proportions, I gave birth to an adorable 9lb 5oz blue-eyed boy. If you're a parent yourself, you probably already know how amazing it is to meet your very first baby, and realize in an instant that you love him/her unconditionally. So when Lukas was born, all I cared about was that all of his necessary parts were indeed, functional. I had no idea that in the coming years, he'd blossom into one of the funniest, most creative deep-thinkers I'd ever come to know. Except for, ya know, me - which is clearly where he inherited all of his intelligence and wit from.

(No offense, Daddy.)

On a multi-daily basis, Luke has something he wants to discuss in detail, a random thought or observation he feels the need to verbalize, or an argument to present that he feels is full of unflinching logic. And of course, as an adult, all full of cynicism and doubt, these things are not only hilarious to hear - but a beacon of light & love in our lives.

Team Mommy & LukeyIt's not always sunshine and hilarity around here, though. His intensity isn't always expressed through silly one-liners or adorable conversations. Sometimes it's in the form of "the devil has possessed my child this afternoon" level tantrums. At 3.5, Luke has already mastered the art of manipulation and stubborn inflexibility - though thankfully, successful cunning maneuvers are not yet part of his repertoire.

The point is, while Luke is an intense, challenging child, he is a GIFT. One that I could never have imagined into being on my own. He is an amazing kid, with a big heart, an even bigger imagination, and everyone that meets him recognizes that he is something special.

For most of his life, I've been documenting the things he says on Twitter, Facebook, and in hand-written notebooks. Our friends and family LOVE hearing what he has to say, and are absolutely charmed by him. Many people have told me that these notes should become a book or a blog...and I dunno, maybe I've just finally gotten sick of being bugged. So here we are.

I'd like to think of this blog as co-authored by me, Jenn, and my son Luke. I may be typing and spelling things out for him, but he is the brains behind the majority of the content. To find out more about Luke, check out his All About Lukas page.
